In anticipation of the Moreland Commission on Public Corruption hearing in Albany on September 24, 2013, RJV submitted written testimony encouraging changes to the campaign finance system in New York State. Our tradition commands us to seek impartiality in politics and to speak up for those who kept out of the political process due to financial or other constraints.
RJV has long decried the exceptionally high campaign contribution limits in New York and the lax disclosure requirements and enforcement. Our testimony calls for a political system that eliminates a “pay-to-play” atmosphere and urges the state-wide adoption of a system of partial public funding similar to the New York City system.
